F7U Cutlass
F7U Cutlass - Matthew Wise
Design of the U.S. Navy Cutlass fighter was started in 1946. The first test flight took place on September 29, 1948. The Cutlass was the first U.S. fighter to be designed with "After Burners" to increase speed performance. The design of the Cutlass owes much to data acquired after WWII from the German Arado Co. Variations of this carrier fighter included missile launcher, reconnaissance, and ground support. The Cutlass was also flown by the "Blue Angels" in 1952.
